What have you been doing for the past 60 years?:
So many fond memories of Lee High School years flood my mind especially those of the Band and Y-Teens. Growing up in Jacksonville was a wonderful experience back then with the old beach boardwalk and downtown hustle and bustle. We were fortunate. I am a University of Florida "Gator' and obtained a bachelor's degree in Sociology in 1966. My master's degree in School Psychology was from Georgia Southern University. As a Nationally Certified School Psychologist for over 30 years, I was instrumental in establishing School Based Mental Health Centers in the Dallas Public Schools. The school district then sent me to Austin to advise the Texas Legislature on the need for School Based Health and Mental Health Centers throughout the State of Texas. The resulting bill passed both houses and was signed by then Governor Bush. After retiring as an administrator from the school system, I and my husband, Alan, moved to St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands where we lived for almost 20 years. Regrettably, after numerous hurricanes, we moved to SW Florida. My brother and I have recently completed a book with historical stories and genealogy, "EUROPEAN MIGRATIONS, AMERICAN DREAMS: 400 Years of Umstot and Associated Families' History", which will soon be available on Amazon. Currently, I have started a book (for my family) on Growing Up in Jacksonville, which includes numerous Jacksonville historical events, photos and description of daily life starting in 1942. |
