What have you been doing for the past 60 years?: Graduated from Univ South Florida, 1966. Served in the Army Medical Service Corps as an Administrative Officer, between 1966 and 1969, with 16 months in Qui Nhon, Viet Nam. Worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida between 1969 and 2007. Joined United Health as a telecommuter in 2007 and am still employed there. My expertise is in using the SAS programming language against large Health Care files and doing analysis of health care data. Darla and I met in the Army, in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1969 where she was a nurse. After her tour in Pu San, Korea, we married and had 3 children. We vacationed 3 times in Japan while I was in Viet Nam and she was in Korea. Now I am the very proud grandparent of little Sam who is the child of my son Chris and Heather. I enjoy fishing for Bass in the local tournaments in Florida. I also enjoy investing in the stock market. Darla, Little Sam and I are frequent visitors to Boone Park and Avondale park where we have picnics and have really great times. I fully enjoy every moment with my grandson and have finally learned to be satisfied with living in the current moment. And fishing will shortly be great. In 2010 I had both knees replaced by Heakin Ortho Clinic. In 2011 and 2012, I had both rotator cuffs repaired. In 2000, a huge wave jammed my head into the bottom of the ocean and paralyzed me from the neck down. My son Chris pulled me from the water and clearly saved my life. I had a helicopter ride to Shands Hospital where they fused together C5 with C6 and I finally regained strength and recovered from the temporary paralysis. In the airport, I set off quite a few alarms, given the amount of metal holding me together. |

What have you been doing for the past 60 years?:
One teacher that made an impression was Mr. Krobalski. He introduced unique ways of doing art using combinations of art and non-art materials. He also made an impression on me with his creativity on a hall pass to the girls' bathroom by writing "girls'sandbox". Judy F. and I met in 10th grade English, immediately finding something to giggle about. We, along with Betty H.,enjoyed being in the Lee Band. In the fall of 1962 I began college at the Univ. of Ga., majoring in Home Ec. and Art and getting a BSHE degree. While at UGA, I was involved with the Baptist Student Union, where I met my husband Bill, and was a member of UGA's Dixie Redcoat Band and Delta Zeta. Within a year after marrying Bill, he joined Uncle Sam's Navy, and we lived in Athens, GA and Charleston,SC suring his tour. After the Navy, we moved to Atlant where our two daughters, Kathy and Betsy, were born. In 1977 we moved to Cornelis, GA where Bill worked as a rate/tariff manager and attorney with the phone company. I attended Piedmont College in Demorest, Ga. to become certified in middle grades and Art education. I am now retired from teaching Elem school Art in the Habersham County school system. Both of our daughters teach in the county. Bill and I have 2 grandaughters, Georgia (17, who is named after my dad) and Janie Beth (13, named after both grandmas). They are very involved in high school girls fastpitch softball. Bill and I spend our time between Cornelia and our cabin on Lake Hartwell and also daily walking our rescued dog Bo. I volunteer at a local charity and at church, and also stay busy doing various art projects. Life is good and we thank the Lord every day for our many blessings. |
