What have you been doing for the past 60 years?: I will begin by saying that I remember having a wonderful time at Lee but after that it's all so long and far away! My family moved from Jax while I was in college and I have not kept up with everyone. Without that constant reinforcement, people and events do become opaque. However, there are still many I remember fondly and I will miss seeing them at this reunion. After graduating from Sullins College in Bristol, Va and the University of South Carolina I moved to Charleston. The town was love at first sight and I have never been able to tear myself away. I married first at 24 and we were together for 10 years. During that time I had a wonderful life of traveling and became very interested in food and cooking. I went to La Varenne in Paris as well as other classes in various places and then taught cooking for a few years. After that I was single for 2 years before remarrying. I continued to live in downtown Charleston and during that time I became the restaurant critic for the Post & Courier for 10 years. That was a lot of fun and I really miss all of the free meals! I have a beautiful boy named Tilghman who is now 29 and a grand daughter named Fury(!)who will be 3 soon. My second husband and I were together for 17 years. Finally, at the tender age of 53 I had to get out and seriously make a living. I decided to become a real estate agent in the historic district due to my enduring interest in houses and architecture. I have been doing this now for about 15 years and am looking forward to things being as cushy as they were when I began! Surprisingly, I actually like working, although it does take some energy away from my more creative side. Eight years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Luckily, my oncologist was my lovely godson Bill Schmidt, son of our classmate of the same name. He worked hard to make sure I would be all right and here I am now, telling the tale, with no small thanks to him. I come to Ponte Vedre several times a year to visit friends who recently retired there from Houston. I have great memories of going to the beach there when we were in high school and am always hoping to catch I glimpse of somone I know. So far no luck...At this point I am now one of those single (older... but hopefully, not elderly!) women and I am fortunate to still have a fun and interesting life filled with some amazing friends. I have made some big mistakes but I really wouldn't change too much because some of those have yielded valuable lessons and experiences I would have otherwise not had. I do truly feel so fortunate and I wish the same feelings for all of you in the class of '62. I will definitely make it to our 60th! |

Comment: I graduated from University of Florida in 1966 and University of Miami Law School in 1973. In 1965 I married Gloria Smith, my college sweetheart. I've been living and practicing law in the central Florida area for almost 40 years. | |
What have you been doing for the past 60 years?: God has blessed me with 3 married children and 10 grandchildren. Over the years I have enjoyed playing golf, going to Nascar races, and watching the Braves play baseball in Atlanta and Orlando. My favorite vacations were spent at our mountain home in Lake Lure, NC. |
