After graduation I joined the U.S. Army Infantry in Aug. 1962. I was stationed at Ft. Benning, Ga. (2nd Inf. Div.) with duty in Germany and Africa. I was honorably discharged in Aug. 1965 with a rank of Sgt. E-5.

What have you been doing for the past 60 years?: In highschool,my favorite teacher was Kathleen Vinson. She was the only one who realized and understood that I was deaf. She took the time to tutor me after school to ensure my disability was not going to prevent me from excelling in school.I attended Florida State on a "grant-in-aid" until 1965.While playing I suffered two concussions which worsen my childhood partial-deafness and ended my football career. In 1966 I married Sabra Spindler(class of '64).This July will mark our 46th anniversary.Worked in executive management for P.R.Mallory in Indiana before moving to Daytona Beach Fl.in 1971.At that time I started working for Ray Fox Engineering a Nascar engine builder and race team.Ray Fox gave his racing number 3 to Richard Childress and Dale Earnhart in 1978 and the rest is history!I also managed and ran their Firestone Tire Store for ten years. At that time I studied and worked to become a master automobile technician, diesel technician and a master advanced engine performance technician.I taught computer ignition and computer fuel systems technology at Daytona Beach Community College while working at various repair shops and running my Goodyear Tire Store in the area.I retired in 2007 for health issues from Lloyd Cadillac .Sabra and I and adopted our son and daughter from The Children's Home Society of Florida. They have blessed us with seven grandchildren of which two sets are twins! We enjoy traveling between our home in South Daytona Beach and our cabin in the North Georgia mountains several times a year to visit our extended family. My newest passion is visiting various civil war battlefields throughout the United States in following the footsteps where my great grandfathers fought.

What have you been doing for the past 60 years?: After graduating from Lee I spent 4 years in the USAF working in law enforcement and security. While starting a family, I spent time in the insurance business and a short time with the Tampa Fire Dept while trying to complete my education. I moved back to the Jacksonville area in the mid 70\'s and got involved in the flooring business. I spent about 20 years as an outside sales rep. and in 1990 my wife (Gayle Watson Kellum, Lee class of 1968)and I bought a flooring business in Fernandina Beach. In 1999 we built a new showroom and warehouse and shortly thereafter I retired until the great recession hit. We enjoy spending time sailing in the Bahamas and the coastal waters of Florida.
